Plickers

A teacher is charged with the responsibility of each and every student in the class to which - beside many others - belongs their comprehension about the content of the course. This may be a struggle for a lot of teachers as it is not easy to overview the students in their abilities and difficulties. For this very reason Plickers goes to the rescue.

It gives all students the chance to participate and engage in learning without feeling self-conscious. The system is based on multiple choice responses with each student having a card (“paper clicker” – owing its name because it uses paper and there is no need for any electronic devices to take part in the assessment) with a unique visual code. This code has 4 sides, each lettered A, B, C, and D. The teacher is the only one who needs a smart device. Afterwards the teacher needs the smart device to scan the answers that students hold up. The app recognizes the cards, records who the teacher assigned them to, and captures the answer that the student chose. Each student’s answer is recorded only once, so you don’t need to worry about a second scan. Additionally, replacing a clicker is as simple as printing a new one and the data is automatically saved, student-by-student, at plickers.com.

Plickers can also be used in demo version if there is no need to track responses back to individuals. It is completely anonymous polling of the audience. The saved class option is for tracking students responses. To use the saved class option each students name has to be entered and a Plickers has to be assigned to each of them. The polling that you do is still anonymous from the students’ perspectives, but you can see how each student responded to your prompts.

It is simple and a genuis idea. All you need is paper and an app. The result of polls appear live and in real time on the teacher’s device, or they can be projected on a large screen for the whole class to see via the Plicker’s website.
